Lhasa, Tibet The age of a child to become a monk is 8 years old.The Potala, built on a hilltop above Lhasa, is one of the most significant and commanding buildings on earth. The outer walls are white—the center section red—the roof gold. The Tibetan parliament met, and the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Pope, lived here until the Tibetan uprising in 1959.
